CBT Counselling Darlington has a "Here and Now" approach to understanding and overcoming psychological issues.
How we feel, think and behave interact together to maintain emotional issues
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy tries to understand this interaction to enable us to make changes in how we feel, think and behave.
When you are anxious or depressed for example, cognition (thinking) can focus on excessive worry about things. With anxiety, you may expect the worst to happen in a situation or misinterpret your anxiety symptoms for physical illness (such as palpitations). In depression, the person may believe they are bad or that they have done something wrong (although there is no evidence for this).
The combination of
the above types of thinking with either of the feelings that follow
will lead people to alter their behaviour in an effort to feel better.
This means a person is likely to avoid situations where they have felt
uncomfortable before. Or they may predict where they will feel
uncomfortable again. They can carry out repeated actions because those
actions reduce anxiety. A person may feel so low and can have an
inability to carry out normal tasks.
As a counsellor for CBT Counselling in Darlington we follow this very
effective approach to counselling. Our aim is to provide you a
comfortable safe experience through your journey.
